POLICE have charged a driver with being under the influence of drugs when he crashed near Newtown St Boswells yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the A68 at around 11.30am after a Peugeot 207 smashed into a crash barrier and left the road.

The 41-year-old male driver was uninjured in the crash but officer believe he was under the influence of drugs.

Inspector John Scott told the Border Telegraph: "Drug driving puts not only the offending motorist, but other road users at risk and these offences will not be tolerated.

"We regularly conduct patrols of the road network, as well as responding to information provided to us by the public and anyone found to be driving under the influence of any substance will be robustly dealt with."

The man will now be reported to the Procurator Fiscal at Selkirk.
