THE owners of a miracle moggy who cheated death are appealing for help to track him down.

Freddie was only give a one-in-100 chance of survival after contracting a rare lung infection four years ago.

The seven-year-old ginger tomcat somehow pulled through after lengthy treatment.

And he has been living happily around rural Tweedsmuir since the family moved to Peeblesshire last year.

But seven weeks ago Freddie was scared off by low-flying jets - and he hasn't been seen since.

Owner Katrina Fitzgerald told us: "The jet fighters flew so low across our house that I actually shouted out with fright - and Freddie has not been seen since.

"We believe that he was petrified, ran away then realised he did know where he was.

"Our major concern is that he has to have regular check-ups at the cat hospital to make sure his lungs are still clear and functioning properly. "His appointment is due soon and could be the difference between life and death for our special Freddie."

Freddie, who has not been micro-chipped, contracted a lung infection caused by debris during a teeth-clean at the vets.

He was taken to a specialist cat hospital in the West Midlands.

Despite the slim hopes of survival Katrina wanted to continue with the treatment and syringes were inserted into his lungs to drain the infection.

Within a week the treatment was taking effect and Freddie was allowed home with tubes inserted in his neck for feeding.

Almost four years on Freddie still requires regular check ups at the same hospital.

He was last seen on July 24 at Patervan, between Stanhope and Tweedsmuir.
