WINDS of up to 70mph are expected next week, as the reminents of Hurricane Ophelia are set to make landfall in the region.

The Met Office are warning that road and rail services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.

The weather warning comes in to effect in the early hours of Tuesday morning (October 17), and will last until around 6pm.

The forecaster was warned of possible power cuts, with the potential to affect other services such as mobile phone coverage.

There is also a possibility of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, which may lead to injuries and danger to life from flying debris.
