ALL pay and display parking machines in the Borders have been adapted to accept the new £1 coins.
That assurance was issued at the last meeting of Scottish Borders Council by Councillor George Turnbull (Cons), executive member for finance.
He was responding to a question from Councillor Euan Jardine (Cons) who said he had been “startled” to read that many councils in Scotland were not prepared for the transition.
“All our pay and display machines have been fitted with validators and can take both the new and old coins,” said Cllr Turnbull. “All our catering machines have also been changed and will be disabled from accepting the old coins.
“The council is fully ready for the new £1 coin.”
The round £1 coin will cease to be legal tender tomorrow (Sunday).
