THE A72 remains closed after a pedestrian was knocked down near Clovenfords this morning.

The incident happened around 11am on the A72, between the village and the Nest roundabout.

A 50-year-old female pedestrian was involved in a collision with a dark blue Mercedes A150 car.

The woman has been taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

The A72, from the Nest Roundabout to Walkerburn, remains closed however there is local access on the A72 from Peebles to Walkerburn.

The road is expected to be closed as people travel home from work and school and motorists are asked to seek alternative routes.

Inspector Calum Welsh said: "We are still trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and would urge anyone with information to contact us immediately.

"Motorists are asked to avoid this area, where possible, as officers remain in attendance at the scene."
