FUN runners can expect a splash of colour this weekend in Galashiels.

The first ever Colour Run is set to take place at Heriot-Watt’s Galashiels campus on Saturday morning.

The five kilometre course around the Netherdale grounds will include a few primary pigment surprises.

And all of the funds raised will go towards reducing the stigma surrounding mental health as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Lucy Graham, vice president at the Heriot-Watt Scottish Borders Campus, told us: “We’re all really excited to host a Colour Run for the first time here in Galashiels with our friends at Live Borders.

“It’s an event that has proven to be hugely popular at our Edinburgh Campus and I would urge people to book their tickets fast.

“This is a great opportunity to not only get fit, have fun and raise money for two very worthwhile causes but also help raise awareness around mental health.”

The family-friendly Colour Run gets underway at 10am on Saturday.

Runners and walkers will be doused in bright colours as volunteers throw pigment at four points along the route.

All money raised will be split between the University’s Black Dog Campaign, to help reduce the stigma around mental health, and Live Borders, which supports healthy and active lifestyles in the region.

Jane Hogg, Live Borders director of commercial services, added: “We’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with Heriot-Watt University to bring the Colour Run to Galashiels.

“Mental health is an incredibly important subject and the Colour Run is an opportunity to focus on our mental wellbeing.

"The event will be fantastic fun for all the family and we’re looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible.”

Spaces are limited and booking in advance is essential.
