AMBULANCE crews based at Borders General Hospital have scooped two national awards.

At last week's Scottish Health Awards the Scottish Ambulance Service team took home the Integrated Care for Older People gong and the prestigious Top Team trophy

The BGH team, which consists of three specialist paramedics, was nominated for the motivation and enthusiasm they have shown in their work on a local frail elderly project.

They were also put forward for their commitment to co-producing improved ambulance care in the Borders.

The crew members were praised for fully embracing their projects, whilst continuing to work as full time paramedics, and delivering significant results by changing working practices and attitudes to caring for the elderly population in their community.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Health Awards said: "The team consistently delivers above and beyond what is asked or expected of them."

The winners of each category, chosen by a specially selected panel of judges, were announced at a glittering award ceremony at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh last Thursday.
