A YORKSHIRE company has won the contract to carry out a major upgrade of play equipment in a Galashiels park.
HAGS-SMP from Selby won an eight-way tendering process for the £250,000 Public Park contract.
It is hoped the new equipment will allow the park to rival similar play facilities in Hawick and Tweedbank.
Work is due to commence next March with an expected opening ahead of the school summer holidays in June.
Galashiels councillor Euan Jardine told us: "The scheme will provide Galashiels with an excellent new facility and will be enjoyed by children for many years to come."
The Public Park upgrade, which will cost a total of £290,000, is being funded by cash from the town's pay and display car parks and a £10,000 Tesco Bags of Help grant, with the surplus made up by the local authority.
