A 31-year-old call centre worker was arrested in Jedburgh town centre just hours after appearing at the town's sheriff court.

Gerald McMorrow pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, shouting and swearing, challenging others and making threats of violence at the Canongate.

He continued to be abusive at the nearby bus station as well as Hawick Police Station on Monday evening.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said: "He had appeared earlier that day in court and sentence was deferred for reports.

"But he never got home which shows the difficulty he has with alcohol. "It was 7pm and he was found with two empty Buckfast bottles and matters went downhill from there."

McMorrow - formerly of Kingsmeadows Road in Peebles, but now at Killie Court, Tweedbank, - had been released from custody on Monday afternoon after background reports were ordered.

He had pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in Port Brae, Peebles, and an a police van travelling between Peebles and Borders General Hospital on Saturday night.

McMorrow also admitted failing to give two specimens of breath at Hawick Police Station during the early hours of Sunday morning.

He received an interim driving disqualifcation and sentence was deferred until February 19 for reports.

After his second appearance in as many days, Sheriff Peter Paterson said it was with "reservation" he was granting McMorrow bail.

He made it a condition of bail that McMorrow does not drink any alcohol and that he agrees to be breath-tested for any traces of alcohol when requested to do so.

McMorrow was also placed on a home night time curfew between the hours of 10.30pm and 6.30am.
