KICKING off an ambitious project to bring for creating a rugby heritage centre in Hawick is an online survey.

And anyone taking part has the chance to win a signed rugby jersey by one of the town's greatest ever players - Stuart Hogg.

The Scotland and Glasgow warriors full-back has donated the shirt to help promote a £12,500 feasibility study into the planned centre.

The survey will ask for opinions regarding how and where to preserve and display a vast collection of memorabilia, totalling around 20,000 items, which belongs to Hawick Rugby Club and the Bill McLaren Foundation.

Lead consultant Alan Jones told the Border Telegraph: "This collection of rugby memorabilia is of local, national and international significance and comprises thousands of artefacts, including a collection of international caps dating from 1896, international jerseys, souvenirs from British Lions tours, one of the largest collections in Scotland of club and international programmes, autographed balls, hundreds of rugby photographs, trophies, Bill McLaren’s extensive annotated research material, his big sheets, videos, commentaries and a lot more."
