MEMBERS past and present of the St Ronan’s Border Games are training hard for Innerleithen’s Mighty Deerstalker event next month.

An eight-strong team, led by Standard Bearer Liam Card and his Lass Sally Brown, will take on the gruelling course across the Leithen for the first time.

The group, made up for ex-Standard Bearers and Lasses, plus committee members and friends of the St Ronan’s Games, will navigate their way through the forests and over the hills in the darkness on March 3.

Ex-Standard Bearer David Forrest, who served in 2015, told us: “A few of us on the games committee were keen on doing the Deerstalker this year, and after a few discussions, we thought it would be a great idea to treat it as a fundraiser, with a target of £800.

“The proceeds will help towards the general costs of our annual and much-loved festival.

“We have been in training for a number of months now and our ‘Just giving’ page is slowly getting there with funds. However, we realise that not everyone is online or able to access this system.

“So for this reason, we have decided to hold a collection morning in Innerleithen co-op on Saturday, February 24, from 9am.

“As big an event as this is, we are all treating it as a bit of light-hearted fun, whilst raising money for a annual festival that means a great deal to us. “St Ronan’s Border Games is in constant need of finances to keep it alive, like every other festival across the Borders.

“If you folk across Innerleithen can help us in any way shape or form, that would be very much appreciated.”
