TRAIN passengers in the Borders with a ScotRail Smartcard will be entitled to claim a share of a reward fund next month.

All those with a ScotRail Smartcard season ticket will be entitled to claim an equal share of a £1 million pot on March 21.

The initiative is the final element of the Scottish Government’s £3 million fares fund.

The Smartcard allows ticketless travel – meaning customers don’t have to buy paper tickets or wait in ticket queues when travelling.

ScotRail says it has invested heavily in its online and station infrastructure to make the use of a Smartcard as easy as possible.

ScotRail chief operating Offer Angus Thom said: “Our £1 million fund is a smart way to say thank you to our loyal customers. We want as many people as possible to sign up to our Smartcard, so that they can be eligible for this fund and enjoy the benefits of ticketless travel.

“We’re building the best railway Scotland has ever had, and rewarding our loyal customers is an important part of that.”

Minster for Transport Humza Yousaf said: “I would actively encourage all eligible passengers to claim their share and for even more passengers to sign up for SMART – helping to modernise the way Scotland travels now and into the future.”
