RAILWAY mania is once again heading down the line to Tweeddale this weekend.

Following the success of previous events, the third annual Railway and Model Layout Exhibition will head to the Newlands Centre at Romanno Bridge on Saturday and Sunday.

The theme of this year’s two-day event is ‘The History of the Tweeddale Railways’, highlighting the competition between the North British and Caledonian Railways as they fought to control the vital mid-southern Scotland routes linking to the east and west of the country.

The exhibition once again plays host to some of the most prestigious large model layouts in Scotland as well as ever-increasing contributions from local enthusiasts.

Event manager Neil Clunie told us: “This year’s event ensures a packed few hours for all visitors. We have a dedicated children’s area, railway modelling workshops, trade exhibitors, static exhibits plus digital displays throughout the centre which will show films, photos and posters.

“A wide range of food and refreshments will be provided by our excellent catering staff. Stop by for some refreshments, and grab a bite to eat while you take a break from watching the trains go by.

“A big ‘thank you’ is extended to all the exhibitors for supporting the show and the traders and sponsors for their continuing faith in supporting our venture.”

The event is open between 10am to 4pm on both days. Tickets are £4 for those under 12 and over 65, and £5 for adults.
