AN OLYMPIC silver medallist will officially open Hawick's latest supermarket tomorrow.

Rugby star Mark Robertson will cut the ribbon on Aldi’s new store on Thursday morning at 8am.

The first 30 shoppers to arrive on the morning will each receive a complimentary bag full of fruit and vegetables.

Ahead of the store opening, Mark, who brought home a silver medal as part of the men’s rugby team at Rio de Janeiro, said: “I can’t wait to open the new store and welcome excited local shoppers. I grew up not far from here, so it’s always great to be back in the local community and talk to people from the area.”

The new Commercial Road store spanning over 1,254 sqm of retail space, and will offer 92 car-parking bays for motorists.

Store manager Mark Nicol added: “We’re thrilled that Mark will be joining us on opening day as the local residents always love having photos taken with him. We’ve got a fantastic team in place who have been working hard to make sure we’re ready to welcome customers through the doors on April 19.”

19 jobs have been created with the launch of the Hawick store.
