“Earlston in War and Peace 1914-1949” is the theme of the Auld Earlston’s Group’s next exhibition and slide show to be held October 20 and 21 – as announced at the recent AGM.

The exhibition will feature photographs, documents and memorabilia from both wars, many of which have not been displayed before, whilst of key interest in the slide show will be an old cine film of Earlston in the 1930s and 40s,now presented in a digitised format.

Chairman, David Lothian reported on a year of activities, which included a display of vintage photographs at the September Community Day in the rugby field, and at the Alumni Day held at Earlston High School.

The main focus of the past year was the group's two-day event on the theme "Horses to Horse-Power” with a look at travel and transport around Earlston.

The four slide shows attracted full houses, and visitors had a chance to share their own memories of village life. The event drew a large and appreciative audience and was much enjoyed by all who came along.

The Auld Earlston blog at http://auldearlston.blogspot.co.uk, launched in 2015 continues to attract readers, worldwide, as does the associated Facebook page Lost Earlston at https://www.facebook.com/LostEarlston

The group is always keen to gather more photographs, postcards and documents on the village, and is grateful to Earlston Primary School for providing secure storage for its collections.
