AN ex-partner has admitted assaulting the woman as well as demanding money from friends while brandishing a hammer.
Barry Kirsopp from Roxburgh Street in Kelso, was jailed for 12 months this week at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to a total of three offences in Kelso on January 29.
He admitted charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, assaulting his former partner by punching her to the head and breaking a car window with a hammer.
Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said Kirsopp had just removed himself from a methadone programme and he was looking for money from his friends to fund his drug habit before committing the offences.
Sheriff Peter Paterson described Kirsopp's assault of his former partner as "cowardly".
The jail sentences were back-dated to January 31 when Kirsopp was first remanded in custody in connection with the matter.
