GALASHIELS remains at the cutting edge of fashion.

And if proof were needed, it came last week with the 27th annual fashion show by students from Heriot-Watt University's world-famous School of Textile and Design.

The graduates showcased their degree collections in the town last week.

The theme of this year's show was #Transform18 - with models taking to the runway to showcase designs to an audience of VIPs and fashion industry professionals.

The School of Textiles has gained a global reputation for producing some of the most prolific and original designers in recent years.

And, going by this year's collections the trend for creating catwalk stars of the future looks set to continue.

As well as last week's VIP event, additional shows were put on for the public over the weekend, and this year proved to be a record sell-out.

Professor Fiona Waldron, head of school, said: “This year’s degree show was a great success with our talented students’ designs on display for everyone to see.

“The show was a sell out and attended by industry figures who were impressed with the standard of our students work.

“A huge thanks to the organisers.

"We’re already gearing up for next year’s show.”

The annual end of year fashion show in Galashiels is now in its 27th year.

Currently the fashion industry supports around 797,000 jobs domestically in the UK, contributing to £26 billion to the economy.
