A PEDESTRIAN had to take 'evasive action' after a car mounted a busy pavement in Galashiels on Sunday.

Shortly after midday on Sunday, June 24, a vehicle was waiting in a line of stationary traffic eastbound on Island Street/A72, near the junction with Hall Street.

The vehicle, described as a silver saloon car, exited the line of traffic and turned to travel in the opposite direction, mounting the westbound pavement in the process.

The car, which was driven by a female driver with no passengers, was last seen turning left onto Hall Street.

Inspector Kevin Harris said: "There were several members of the public using the pavement at the time, one of whom had to take evasive action to avoid the car.

"Thankfully, no one was injured however this was very shocking for the pedestrian and the driver did not stop at the scene.

"Our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and we'd urge anyone who may have witnessed this, or who has information about this incident, to get in touch."

Those with information can contact Galashiels Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 2236 of June 24.
