SELKIRK has won an online poll as the location of a second memorial bench for Frightened Rabbit singer Scott Hutchison.

Fans of the internationally-famous band have been fundraising over the past few weeks to locate a bench in his adopted home city of Glasgow - with Kelvingrove Bandstand being the most popular venue.

But the £1500 target was swamped within hours of the JustGiving page being set up.

And organisers held an online vote to gauge opinion for where to place a second bench.

Scott's hometown of Selkirk gained 89 votes - more than the Edinburgh, London and the Fife coastal town of Crail votes combined.

Ade Cartwright set up the JustGiving page

He said: “Scott inspired and helped so many people not only through his lyrics but also through his genuine connection with his fans. Everyone could relate to him and he had time for everyone.

“I wanted to set up the JustGiving page so that everyone who knew Scott or had been touched by his music had a place to go and remember him.

"I thought if we could at least raise a couple of hundred pounds towards the bench it would make all the difference but I had no idea just how kind people would be and how much we would raise, it is amazing.”

Scott was a pupil at Knowepark Primary and Selkirk High before moving to Glasgow to study Illustration.

The 36-year-old singer was found dead on May 10 close to where he went missing the day before in South Queensferry.

As well as writing and recording five highly acclaimed albums with Frightened Rabbit, Scott also worked on solo projects and collaborations with many other musicians.

But his success in both Europe and America was often shadowed by struggles with depression.

Any money leftover from the JustGiving page for Scott's benches will be donated to mental health charities.
