DOG lovers from all over the Borders descended on Hawick at the weekend for a day of canine capers.

And all of them were wagging their tails with delight.

The second Family and Dog Fun Day, which was organised by Scottish Borders Council, attracted more than 300 people to Wilton Lodge Park.

And there was also a bumper entry of over 50 best friends entered in the various categories.

The day of competition, activities and fun has been hailed as a huge success by local councillor Sandy Aitchison.

He said: "This was another fantastic day, with entertainment, activities and education the themes of the day.

“It is vital communities play their part and be responsible dog owners, in particular our young people, and our Family and Dog Fun Day certainly helped get across this positive message.

“Thank you to all who attended with their pets, as well as the charities, volunteers and sponsors who supported the event.”

Entertainment included Les Amis D’Onno dog display team, Dryburgh Abbey Training Group with ‘have a go’ dog agility course and dog training demonstrations by Braw Puppy.

There was also a children’s colouring competition, face painting, bouncy castle, scavenger hunt, candy floss cart and competition prizes.

Pet owners were also able to get information on the control of dogs, the Green Dog Walker scheme, while free health checks and microchipping was available.

Charities included Arthurshiel Rescue Centre, Borders Pet Rescue, Guide Dogs Scotland, Scottish Borders Greyhound Rescue, Scottish Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue, British Horse Society and PDSA, with Borders College also supporting the event.
