MELROSE Library staff are hoping to build up their youth membership with the introduction of a Lego Club.

And they have made an appeal for unwanted bricks to be donated ahead of the launch.

Lego Club is being aimed at encouraging children to let their imaginations run free and get creative.

Mairi Wight, Live Borders Library Supervisor, hopes that mums and dads will get behind the initiative by donating any unwanted sets or pieces.

She told us: “We are always looking for new ways to engage with young people.

“Lego Clubs have been started in other areas successfully and I thought it would be a great way to bring children into the library space."

The appeal is for both Lego and Duplo bricks.

Lego is an incredibly beneficial tool for learning from a young age and the club would enable children to develop their skills.

Lego donations can be handed in to any Live Borders library which are situated in Coldstream, Duns, Earlston, Eyemouth Galashiels, Hawick, Innerleithen, Jedburgh, Kelso, Melrose, Peebles and Selkirk.

Mairi added: "These types of clubs can move forward in all sorts of directions i.e. gaming, story writing, storytelling etc. but in order for us to start we need Lego.

“For us to achieve this aim donations of Lego are needed so that we can move forward with the club.

“This is something new which has not been done locally before, but donations themselves are what will enable a club that benefits the community to be run.”
