THREE new walking trails have been opened in the heart of the Tweed Valley.

The waymarked routes in Cardrona Forest are part of a £50,000 investment by Forest Enterprise Scotland to help boost tourism.

The first – Pen View Trail – has been categorised as ‘easy’ and is 1.7 miles long.

The second ‘easy’ route – Fergus’s Trail – is 2.4-miles through woodland to discover Cardrona Tower. And the ‘moderate’ four-mile Pikes Knowe Trail shows off Cardrona Tower and the Iron Age fort Castle Knowe.

Katie Jarvis, recreation forester with Forest Enterprise Scotland told us: “Cardrona Forest is a gem of a forest just outside Peebles and is especially a favourite for walkers who want a quieter and more relaxed time.

“It’s very popular with local people but also visitors from further afield.

“The trails range from over a mile long to four miles in length so there’s a bit of variety.

“You can take an easier walk for around an hour, right up to a longer leg stretcher of two hours if you have more time.”
