THE plight of the people of Syria will be brought into focus later this month in Galashiels.

Art, photography and film will be used to demonstrate the atrocities which continue in the war-torn Middle East republic.

The week-long exhibition is being held in the Trinity Church from Monday, August 27 to Saturday, September 1.

Brian Devlin from the organisers told us: "The exhibition includes photographs of the Syrian refugees' journey across Europe in 2015 by Antonio Olmos, a freelance photo journalist.

"And we are particularly hoping to highlight the story of the detainees who have disappeared in to Assad's prisons by showing a series of documentary films."

The exhibition also features work by Young Lens - a group of young activists from across Syria who have documented the affects of the war in towns and cities since the start of the revolution in 2011 - and Humans of Syria, who are creating profiles of the internally displaced Syrians.

Complementing the exhibition are two films - Syria's Disappeared and The Detainnes Stiory, which will be screened in the Church, presenting different perspectives on the Syrian revolution in Homs and Aleppo.

The screenings will take place on August 27 at 7pm and on September 1 at 2pm.
