A 31-year-old Newtown St Boswells man has been accused of sending an underage girl messages and pictures of an indecent nature and then arranging to meet her in the McDonalds fast food restaurant in Galashiels with the intention of engaging in unlawful sexual activity.

Neil Murray of Glenburn Avenue, denies the offences which are said to have happened between April 15 and May 5 involving a female who was over 13 years of age but had not reached 16.

Selkirk Sheriff Court was told that individuals had been involved in the gathering of evidence in the case which could lead to issues such as "entrapment".

A similar case is about to go in front of a sheriff and jury in Edinburgh and it was agreed to postpone the trial until after that to see if any legal issues emerged from it.

Murray's trial has now been set for November 16 with an intermediate hearing on October 22.
