A REWARD of up to £2,000 is being offered for information after a 92-year-old woman was conned out of a five-figure sum of money.

The charity Crimestoppers is offering the reward that leads to the arrest and conviction of the people who defrauded the pensioner at her Melrose home.

Between June 28 and July 17, two men called at the victim’s home on at least three occasions.

The men claimed to be carrying out work on a wall in her garden and managed to convince the 92-year-old to part with her money.

The suspects are described as being white, in their 40s and of slim build.

Angela Parker, Scotland manager for the charity Crimestoppers, said: “The impact of defrauding anyone is devastating. We need to work together to protect vulnerable people from the harm caused by this type of crime.

“To exploit a 92-year-old woman and defraud her of thousands of pounds is nothing short of heartless.

“We are asking anyone who has information to contact our charity. In over 30 year, Crimestoppers has always kept its guarantee that everyone who contacts us remains 100 percent anonymous.

“Please pick up the phone or use our secure online form, and help us protect people and communities from the harm that these individuals could cause in the future.”

Any information passed directly to the police will not qualify for the reward.

Only details sent to Crimestoppers’ 0800 555 111 number or via the non-traceable anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org will qualify.
