TWO men have been the latest to be fined for trying to smuggle cocaine into Kelso Racecourse.

Twenty one year old Danny Sinton of Craigview Road, Belford, near Berwick, and Craig Sweenie, who is 20, of Wallaceneuk, Kelso, were both found in possession of the class A drug at the Borders track on May 27.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court was told the pair each had cocaine to the value of £50.

The pair were part of a group of 10 people arrested for drugs offences as part of a special police operation aimed at stamping out anti-social behaviour at horse race meetings.

There was a strong police presence at the May meeting at Kelso - which attracted a 5,000 crowd - including two dog handlers.

Thirty four race-goers were searched with eight seizures of cocaine and two cannabis recoveries.

Both men were each fined £350 by Sheriff Peter Paterson.
