CHRISTMAS came to Melrose on Saturday evening.

Dozens of families enjoyed the festive spectacular around the town which culminated in the arrival of Santa Claus.

The Christmas Parade, which is organised by Melrose Rotary, was yet again well supported as it was led by Melrose Pipe Band along St Mary's Street, up by the Abbey and into the Market Square.

And after a healthy serving of festive carols beneath the town's Christmas tree, beautifully accompanied by St Boswells Silver Band, Santa made his welcome appearance down Dingleton Road.

The excitement continued within the Corn Exchange where the winners of the town's Christmas Poster competition and the Best Dressed Window were announced.

Ava McCall was the worthy winner of the Melrose Primary Poster Competition with Joe Faulks named runner-up and Thea Faulks in third.

Henderson's was the winner of the Best Dressed Window.

Simply Delicious was runner-up and Fi Essence collected third place.

Alan Thompson from Melrose Rotary said: "We would like to thank everyone who came along to make Saturday such a success.

"Thanks also to everyone who entered the competitions. The window competition was particularly well supported with most shops decorating their windows this year in support."

Saturday's celebrations were rounded off with mulled wine and mince pies as Santa said his farewells.
