IT is the day that history will be made.

Whatever the outcome of tomorrow’s (Thursday) Independence Referendum, the 108 polling stations across the Scottish Borders will be the busiest they have ever been.

It is estimated that the regional turnout, as well as in the rest of the country, could touch 80 per cent.

And for the first time ever 16 and 17 year-olds will also have their say - 2,539 of them in the Borders.

Will it be a day when Scotland breaks away from the United Kingdom?

Or will it be a day when we stay true to our historic links?

Only you can decide.

Last minute rallies have been planned across many of our towns from both sides as the polls suggest the vote could go either way.

From 7am tomorrow you can make your mark on history - use it wisely.

Counting Officer for the Scottish Borders Council area is Tracey Logan. She is urging the 95,533 electorate to make sure their views are counted.

Ms Logan said: “Whether you want to vote yes or no - you absolutely must vote in order for your vote to be counted.

“Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm but make sure you leave plenty time before the 10pm deadline. Anyone that arrives after 10pm, by law, will not be able to vote.

“Your polling card which should have come through the door states where your polling station is. It’s not compulsory to bring the polling card in order to vote, but will speed up the process in the polling station.

“And once again – you must only put an X in the box your want to vote for otherwise your vote might not be counted.”
