AMATEUR photographer Derek Johnstone has been out and about over the past few weeks capturing the railway works as they head towards Galashiels and Tweedbank.

Rail-laying for the Railway crossed into the Borders at the start of the month and they are slowly making their way south.

It is anticipated that rail-laying will take place through Galashiels close to Christmas.

Mr Johnstone, from Galashiels, has taken dozens of photographs from above Heriot all the way down to below Stow as trains running through the Borders becomes more and more of a reality.

Derek told the Border Telegraph: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime event and it’s important that we remember the work that went into bring back the railway.” The 30-miles route which connects Edinburgh and Tweedbank is expected to be complete by the summer of 2015. And the first passenger train will come down the line on September 6, 2015.
