COLLEGE chiefs in the Borders are celebrating after reaching number one - yet again.

Lecturers and students at the three Borders College campuses have come out on top in the further education rankings.

Learning establishments across Scotland are judged on course success as well as teaching qualifications.

And for the second time in three years, Borders College has come out on top.

College Principal, Liz McIntyre told the Border Telegraph: “Borders College is delighted to be able to celebrate once again the success of our students. “For a number of years ensuring that our students have the best possible chance of success has been our priority. “We aim to do this by providing excellent teaching, a high level of tailored student support combined with great facilities and a hugely positive student experience. “Our professional and enthusiastic staff team are at the heart of this strategy and it is due to their efforts that our students do so well and enjoy their time here at the College.” Borders College recorded a 74 per cent success rate for all Further Education courses and 76 per cent for Higher Education - both well above the national averages.

And impressive 82 per cent of students completed their courses.

Success for students who are under 18 was also a healthy 72.4 per cent.

And 75.5 per cent of local disabled students were successful in their studies during 2013/14.

This is the sixth year in succession that the college, with campuses in Galashiels, Newtown St Boswells and Hawick, has been one of the top performers for student success. From Art & Design to Mechanical Engineering, Beauty Therapy to Gamekeeping, Hospitality to Health Care and a vast range in between, Borders College receives thousands of applications each year from potential students wishing to equip themselves with the essential skills and knowledge to give them the best chance of securing employment and embarking on a fulfilling career.

To join in the success story, applications are currently open for next year.

All applications received before March 15 will be guaranteed an interview.
