FUNDRAISING group the Friends of the BGH handed over a cheque last week for the purchase of a Cough Assist Machine.
The equipment, which costs £2500, will be used in the intensive Treatment Unit within the hospital.
Vineeth Ravindran, senior physiotherapist at The Borders General Hosptial, said: “The Cough Assist Machine will primarily be intended for use on acute medical patients in the Intensive Treatment Unit. “The machine, as the name says, will help clear secretions from patients presented with an impaired coughing mechanism, due to either drowsiness or disease and will limit the process of patients being ventilated.” Fundraising events were held around the Scottish Borders to fund the machine.
