THE sun shone on Galashiels at the weekend.

Braw Lad Greg Borthwick extended the hand of friendship to Selkirk Standard Bearer Douglas Gunn during the traditional Spurs Night meeting at Galafoot on Friday night.

A total of 78 riders followed the Principals on horseback - more than double the previous year when rain threatened to dampen the celebrations.

And many more lined the streets to show their support ahead of this year's festivities.

The build up to the Braw Lads' Gathering continues this weekend with the Threepwood rideout - when the Braw Lad and Lass meet the Lauder Cornet.

The mounted party will leave Currie Road car park in Galashiels on Friday (May 28) at 6pm.
