LOTHIAN and Borders Police welcomed the sentencing of Gary Scott and Terence McMillan to 12 years imprisonment for attempted murder.

The pair were sentenced at the High Court in Dundee today following an attack on a 25-year-old man in Hawick on Sunday, March 22, 2009.

Detective Chief Inspector Linda Little said: "Both Gary Scott and Terry McMillan subjected their victim to a horrendous assault that left him with serious injuries to his head and body.

"They showed no compassion for the young man's life, and it is fortunate that the victim survived.

"We thank the public for their assistance throughout this enquiry and take this opportunity to highlight the rarity of crimes of this nature in the Scottish Borders.

"Lothian and Borders Police are committed to reducing the number of victims of violent crime, and will vigorously pursue anyone involved in such criminal behaviour."
