Man remains in serious condition in hospital

POLICE are now following several new lines of enquiry following an appeal for information into a serious assault in the Borders.

A 54-year-old man was within his home address in McLaren Court, Hawick around 12.45am on the 26th April when three men entered the property and began assaulting him.

The man was taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment on various injuries to his head and abdomen and remains in a serious condition.

Detectives issued an appeal for information last week and have been pleased by the positive response from the public. However, they continue to urge anyone who may still have information that can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Jim Morrison said: "I am delighted at how responsive and helpful the local community has been as we continue with our investigation to locate those responsible for this serious crime.

"As a result of last week's appeal, we received half a dozen calls from the public and will now begin following up on a number of new lines of enquiry.

"Nevertheless, there may still be someone out there who knows something and has not yet made contact with police. I would urge them to do so as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
