A 20-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in private at Jedburgh Sheriff Court accused of assaulting and robbing an 80-year-old woman in her own home.

Taylor Wright, of no fixed abode, faces a total of seven charges including entering the property in possession of an imitation firearm, defeating the ends of justice by disconnecting a telephone and stealing a car.

He is also charged with stealing the pensioner’s bank card and using it to remove money from a cash machine in Selkirk.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at a house in the Yarrow Valley area on Wednesday evening last week.

Wright made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination. he was remanded in custody by Sheriff Derrick McIntyre.
