POLICE have issued a warning after a bogus caller attempted to gain entry to a house in Earlston yesterday (Tuesday).

The man, who is around 30-years old with short, dark hair, wearing a high-visibility waistcoat and jeans, claimed to quoting a price for work on a tree.

But when challenged he immediately left in a white transit van.

It is thought that the man spoke with an Eastern European accent.

The incident happened at around 11am and local officers are warning other householders to be on their guard.

PC Kirsty Neish said: "If there is a caller at your house keep them outside your house and call 101, if the refuse to leave your door and you feel threatened call 999."
