OVER 100 people turned out to pay a touching tribute to a teenager found dead in the Borders earlier this year.

Aaliyah Sutherland was only 13 when she passed away at her home in Clovenfords on May 17.

Before the tragedy, she had written a list of things she wanted to do before she died– including walking through a McDonald's drive-thru.

Her grieving family discovered the bucket list amongst her possessions. And, over the past couple of months, they have been gradually ticking off each of Aaliyah's wishes.

On Thursday afternoon, family and friends paid tribute to the former Earlston High School pupil at the McDonald's restaurant in Galashiels.

The event raised £132 for children's charity ChildLine.

Aaliyah's mum Lisa Bond told the Border Telegraph: “We are blown away with the turnout today. She was a special girl and everyone here has so many fond memories of her.

“Aaliyah wrote a summer bucket list in March and it was all things she wanted to achieve throughout the summer. Walking through a drive thru was one of them.

Border Telegraph: Aaliyah Sutherland took her own life in May.

"It's a long list and there's no way she'd have done everything, but we decided we'd try to do it for her.

"Doing Aaliyah's bucket list keeps her with us in a way - she'll definitely be laughing at some of the things we're doing."

The bucket list challenge also included letting go of a Chinese lantern, swimming in the sea, getting sun tans, and a day at the beach.

Before the McDonald's walk thru, Lisa and her family and friends had raised almost £2,000 for ChildLine with a collection at Aaliyah's funeral, a JustGiving page, collection boxes at the Co-op in Galashiels and the sale of wristbands in Aaliyah's memory.
