GALASHIELS is taking a stand against violence towards women in a 'reclaim the night' march taking place on Saturday.

The global 16 Days of Action campaign begins today (Wednesday) and members of the public are encouraged to support the campaign to change attitudes and raise awareness of violence and harassment against women.

Those seeking to take part are asked to gather at 5.30pm on Saturday, November 28 in front of MacArts building on Bridge Street, in Galashiels, before the march starts at 6pm.

Earlier on Saturday, MacArts will also host an art exhibition and information stalls from 2pm to 4pm, where free craft workshops will be available for children of all ages to make shakers and banners to take on the march.

Scottish Borders Council’s Executive Member for Community Safety, Councillor Donald Moffat, said: “It would be fantastic if we could get as many people as possible to take part in the Reclaim the Night March, this year taking place in Galashiels, and support the 16 Days of Action campaign to tackle violence against women.

“We should have no-one living in fear of abuse, in whatever form it takes, and that is why 16 Days of Action is a vital movement to try to end violence against women.”
