SELKIRK community councillors held their own Tapestry vote last week.
And the straw poll saw a narrow win for Galashiels, just ahead of scrapping the project entirely.
The three-two vote, with Tweedbank receiving no support, was conducted following a debate over the £6 million scheme.
Community council chairman Alistair Pattullo said: "We have expressed our views in the past and this council is supportive of the Galashiels option.
"Tweedbank is a housing scheme with some factories - why would you put a visitor attraction where there is nothing else for them to see?"
Members of Scottish Borders Council will cast their votes next month for one of three options - a new building in Galashiels and refurbishment of the neighbouring post office, a new build opposite the rail terminus at Tweedbank, or scrap the project.
Selkirkshire councillor Michelle Ballantyne is against bringing the attraction to the Borders. She told last week's meeting: "There is going to be a huge hole in budgets at Scottish Borders Council and we are facing some serious cuts.
"How can we turn around in a year or two and say this was money well spent?"
