FORMER pupils of Langlee Primary are being invited to an open day on Saturday to share their memories of time at the school.

The current primary is due to be demolished during the summer with pupils moving to the newly built £10 million replacement in the new term.

Saturday's open day from 10am to 1pm will give former pupils, members of staff and members of the community a final opportunity to have a look around and share their memories.

Headteacher Sandra Davidson said: “Langlee’s current school has served generations of children in Galashiels since being built in 1958 and many people have memories invested in the present building.

“However, a new building is now clearly needed and the children and staff are looking forward to moving into their new school.

"We have recently been over for a site visit and the building is looking fantastic."

The new three-storey school will have 14 classrooms, a centre for children with severe and complex additional support needs, provision for early learning and childcare, a sports hall and outdoor MUGA pitch.

Ms Davidson added: “The new school is important, not just to the Langlee community, but the whole of Galashiels.

“I hope it will be a major asset which is well used by local organisations and groups as well as pupils and families.”

The replacement school is being built by McLaughlin and Harvey who have previously worked with Scottish Borders Council on the refurbishment of the former Kingsland Primary School in Peebles that is now occupied by Halyrude Primary.

The firm also completed the extension to Newlands Primary School in 2011 as well as the extensive work at Heriot-Watt University’s Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels and Glentress Peel Visitor Centre.
