ARTISTS in Galashiels have chosen their poster girl for a forthcoming exhibition.

And the winner, Lena Scott, has double reason to celebrate as she also celebrates her 60th year as a member of the Galashiels Studio Club.

Lena was a Higher Art student in 1957 when she was invited to become a junior member of the club to broaden her painting horizons.

Over the following six decades she has remained a faithful member of the group, holding down positions of both secretary and treasurer.

A spokeswoman for the Galashiels Studio Club told us: "Lena vividly recalls learning to paint in oils when she became a member of the club.

"Lena’s beautiful picture of birds, entitled Feeding Time, was selected from amongst those of other members to promote our forthcoming exhibition – what a great way to celebrate her 60 years as an artist with this club."

The Galashiels Studio Club Exhibition in Old Gala House starts this Saturday (July 8).

Lena’s original painting can be viewed alongside fine paintings by other Studio Club members as well as works by professional artists such as Janet Cleghorn and John Martin.

The spokeswoman added: "In the spirit of the early pioneers of this club, young people also have their place in this exhibition. Winners of The Young Artist Award for pupils of Galashiels Academy, kindly presented by Galashiels Rotary Club, will also be on display."

The exhibition, which has free entry, is open between 10am and 4pm until Saturday, August 5.
