A CARE company in Galashiels is creating ten new jobs

Mears, who took over ILS more than three years ago, announced plans this week to expand its operations in the Borders.

The positions are for car drivers who can offer care to people in their homes.

Local manager Karyn Davie told the Border Telegraph: "We are looking to expand and require to recruit a further ten new care at home workers for shift work.

"We are very flexible in the hours that we offer and we provide full training for new staff and SVQ training for existing staff members.

"We offer very flexible working patterns and good rates of pay above the National Living Wage, and there are opportunities for part-time and shift work as well as full-time positions.”

Mears provides care and support at home to more than 40,000 people each week from offices all around the UK, through contracts with the local authorities.

The firm delivers a trusted and flexible service to support people’s different needs.

The Borders positions involve carrying out essential tasks to help people continue living independently for as long as possible.

Thomas Halliday from Newcastle joined Mears Galashiels just over a year ago.

The 25-year-old was quickly promoted from his role as a support worker to become a co-ordinator.

And Mears is currently putting him through his SVQ Level 3 training.

He told us: "I love working with people and I have learned so much from the service users I helped in their own homes.

"The people I care for have amazing stories to tell and I have found true job satisfaction knowing that what I do has enabled them to live independently at home for as long as possible.”
