AN electronics firm has announced expansion plans that will bring around 50 new jobs to the Borders.
Plexus, which already has a manufacturing base in Kelso, has confirmed it will be opening the additional site in Tweedbank.
The expansion will add about 50 jobs to the 270 workers already employed by the firm in Scotland.
It is welcome news for the region, after a similar number of jobs in the manufacturing industry were cut last week.
Jedburgh Kiltmakers Ltd announced last Tuesday that low order numbers had forced the company to close its doors by the weekend, losing its 31-strong workforce.
And Hawick then announced more job cuts, with Barrie Knitwear forced to trim 19 jobs from its factory base.
MP Michael Moore said the news was a "bitter blow" to the area, adding: 'These guys have got some really great skills, and the Borders has a world-class manufacturing sector; it would be criminal if that was to be wasted.'
