ONE of the entrances to Galashiels could be renamed after the world's most wanted man.
At a meeting of Galashiels and Langlee Community Council last week, members joked Magdala Terrace, the main road into the town from Edinburgh, should be renamed Bin Laden Terrace - because of the number of bins littering the street.
Rows of dustbins straddle the A7 throughout the week because residents either cannot carry them up and down the steep bankings to reach their homes or have no garden ground to store them.
And, last week, Scottish Borders Council announced it was set to issue thousands of new bins to encourage more residents to recycle as the local authority prepares to switch to fortnightly collections.
Community councillor Kenneth Windram said: "For people coming into the town it looks like it's bucket day every day and it's not a good picture for the town."
One community councillor asked if the single bins could be replaced by giant communal bins in the streets like they do in Edinburgh. Scottish Borders Council said it would consider all suggestions.
However, members heard that the larger bins in the city "stunk" and took up valuable parking spaces and, it was claimed, there was already a shortage of parking spaces.
Meanwhile, parking problems in Magdala Terrace are set to be exacerbated after the council confirmed plans to introduce no waiting at any time limit in Buckholm Mill Brae, Galashiels.

My Bin is Laden with stinking rubbish - as is this 'proposal'! How about 'Lettsby Avenue', 'Weir Avenue' or 'Kidding Crescent'?
