Galashiels dancers shine on the big stage
A GAGGLE of girls from Galashiels appeared in the spotlight last month.
A total of 22 dancers, aged between five and 17-years-old, from the Borders-based Ward School of Irish Dance were invited to perform with the touring show 'Essence of Ireland' at the Edinburgh Playhouse last month.
And, according to local dance teacher Joanne McGowan, they lit up the stage.
The Edinburgh Playhouse, which was modelled on the Roxy Cinema in New York, has played host to a wide variety of artists and shows - including some of biggest names in show business - and has a capacity of 3059.
Joanne said: "It was an unforgettable experience. The girls practiced and rehearsed a routine and had the incredible opportunity to perform with the show. They all had a ball and everyone was so proud of them.
"Their performance was fab and the cast and production were amazing and gave all the girls such great feedback."
The girls who appeared on the big stage were as follows: Lucy Brownlee, Kirsty Summers, Amy Oliver, Kirsty Marks, Linzi Moffat, Stacey Moir, Katy Millar, Rebecca Frankland, Eilis Walsh, Paula Ness, Lauren Hume, Carly Taylor, Jenna McMillan, Lucy Stephenson, Sarah Ketchen, Hannah Grahame, Natalie Moffat, Lucy Forsyth, Melody O'Brien, Gemma Yoxall, Hana Elder and Jane Costello.
The Ward School of Irish Dance meets at the Focus Centre in Galashiels on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week. For more information call Joanne on 07791579768.
