A NEW race has been added to a fun run in memory of a schoolboy who died while playing cricket near his home in Galashiels aged nine.
A 10k race has been added to the Meigle Run schedule on Friday, May 2, with all proceeds going to the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust, which offers grants to young sports stars living in the TD1 postcode area to help them achieve their goals.
Organised with local running club Gala Harriers, the new distance means there are now three runs for participants of all ages and standards to take part in, all of which start at Gala Cricket Club.
The junior fun run starts at 6pm with a £2 entry fee, the 5k Meigle Run starts at 6.15pm (£5 fee) followed by the 10k run at 7pm (£5 fee). A family entry for the Meigle Run is £10.
Families, walkers and dog walkers are encouraged to participate.
Registration starts at 5pm at the Cricket Club, with a social event in the clubrooms afterwards.
Last year more than 100 runners and walkers of all ages and abilities took part in the fun run. And Grand National winning jockey Ryan Mania presented the medals.
