UNDERAGE drinking continues to be a probem in Galashiels, community councillors heard.
Local PC Sandy Blacklock revealed youngsters were reportedly consuming alcohol in the town’s Scott Park - next door to Galashiels Academy.
He said: “It will happen but they (the children) are putting themselves in danger.” Youths were also said to be causing a nuisance by “hanging around” at the town’s Tesco store.
They are also suspected of stealing building materials from a construction site in Rose Court, Galashiels, to build a “gang hut”, as well as causing damage to St Aidan’s Church in Galapark.
PC Blacklock gave his monthly police report to Galashiels and Langlee Community Council last week.
He also revealed that a man had been charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act after police searched two properties in Galashiels - one in Halliburton Place and another in Glendinning Terrace - on March 6 And he urged the local community to continue to report any suspicous activity.
PC Blacklock pointed out that the old phone number for Galashiels Police Station - 01896 752222 - no longer works. And he advised members to call 101 instead.
