IT is one of the highlights of the year in Galashiels.

And the Braw Lads’ Gathering - a programme of events to celebrate the history of the town each summer - is still counting the success of this year’s festivities.

It helped raise more than £1000 for local charity and the cheques were presented at an official handover ceremony at the Raid Stane in Galashiels on Friday.

The Braw Lads’ Day Breakfast raised £700 for the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust, which helps young sports star in the TD1 area reach their sporting goals.

The money was raised through raffles and ticket sales.

The medical staff covering the Braw Lads’ Gathering also requested that their £200 fee was donated to the local charity.

Former Attendant Jimmy Graham, one of the organisers of the Gala Day Breakfast, also presented a cheque for £985 to the Braw Lads’ Gathering, and a cheque for £200 to the Galashiels Ex-Service Pipe Band.

Keith Irvine, from the Rowan Boland Trust, said: “The cheques are gratefully received, the trust supports young sports people through donations like this.”
