GALASHIELS Community Council heard plans to build a new health centre in Roxburgh Street have stalled in recent months.

Rick Kenney, chairman of the planning committee, was invited to meetings of the working group set up by NHS Borders.

However, he revealed it had not met “for a number of months”.

Health chiefs this week insisted “discussions are at an advanced stage” and the redevelopment of the current ambulance station site on Roxburgh Street will begin shortly after the completion of the new ambulance station at Borders General Hospital near Melrose.

Mr Kenney revealed the keys to the new station were due to be handed over in January.

A spokesperson for NHS Borders said: “The stated intention is to build a replacement for the Roxburgh Street GP Practice and NHS Borders Primary & Community Services on the current SAS ambulance site in Roxburgh Street, Galashiels. The redevelopment will accommodate both the GP Practice and NHS Borders Primary & Community Services, and could be ready by spring 2016.” Meanwhile, an opening date has still to be confirmed for the new pharmacy in Langlee.

Alison Wilson, NHS Borders Director of Pharmacy said: “The application for a new pharmacy in Langlee has been given the go ahead. An opening date for this pharmacy has not yet been confirmed.”
