FORTY boys from Galashiels Academy went to see Sunderland take on Arsenal in an entertaining display of top quality BPL football on October 25.

On top of that there was a full tour of the Stadium of Light and an impressive two hour training session with one of Sunderland’s coaches!

At seven o’clock the enthusiastic group set off for the Stadium of Light - including teachers who were more excited than the pupils themselves!

Welcomed as guests by the Sunderland staff, they kindly toured the Gala group around the stadium and showed off some of trophies they’d won over the years.

The Gala pupils were then encouraged to run down the tunnel and sit in the away manager’s seat, which would be occupied by the great Arsene Wenger in only hours to come.

After the tour the group proceeded to the training session were they were taught valuable football skills by the Sunderland coaches.

The session was excellent and definitely one of the highlights of the trip.

Then came the moment most of us had been waiting weeks for - the match! Being in the stadium full of encouraging fans was an amazing experience – especially seeing great footballers such as Alexis Sánchez, Danny Welbeck and Santi Cazorla on the pitch.

After an impressive display by Arsenal beating their opponents 2-0, with both goals by Sanchez, there was nothing to complain about. The brilliant game ended a brilliant day.
